In China, a new alliance has been formed to enhance the commercial space industry, involving universities, rocket makers, and semiconductor companies. The Commercial Space Industry Technology Alliance was initiated by the Harbin Institute of Technology, a school known for its pioneering astronautics faculty established back in 1987. The alliance now includes over 100 members, such as the chip designer Loongson Technology and rocket developers like LandSpace and iSpace.

This alliance is focusing on improving technology research, development, innovation, and the commercialization of aerospace achievements. It aims to support China’s vision of becoming a leading aerospace nation and responds to the government’s strategy for boosting the economy through new industries.

Recently, Premier Li Qiang highlighted commercial astronautics as one of the six new sectors expected to drive economic growth. Cities like Beijing and Shanghai have outlined ambitious plans for the space industry. Beijing aims to host over 20 public companies and 10 high-value startups by 2028, while Shanghai plans to launch up to 50 commercial rockets each year by 2025.

This strategic move is expected to significantly contribute to the development and innovation in China’s burgeoning space sector.
